Like you, 80% of Canadians live in cities. The trees in our neighbourhoods provide us with many services and support biodiversity. We are researchers from UQAM, Sherbrooke and Concordia universities interested in how trees shape our communities.
One of our objectives is to carry out a complete tree inventory in 25 plots of 200-meter radius across the Island of Montreal. As you can guess, you're one of the lucky ones in these plots! Your trees help increase biodiversity in the metropolitan area and provide essential services to our residents.
We need your help. There are two ways to help us complete this important inventory.
- Inventory your tree yourself! All you need to do is identify your tree species and measure your tree circumference by following the detailed instructions on our website.
- Let us measure your trees! Our team will be visiting your neighbourhood over the summer, measuring both public and private trees. We will be knocking on doors and asking permission to enter your property. By allowing us to measure your trees, you will be helping us to answer important questions about our city.
